Neal Braverman for Dick Summer said: December 8, 2010 7:18 am PST
Hi Folks, I am honored to post a few words from a wonderful friend I and many of you have known for many years, Dick Summer. It may take fa couple notes to complete. For those that may NOT remember Dick, I am including a bio included on the www.mmone.org site. This site as well is one I encourage all of you to take a look at and become a part of! The Music Museum of New England, Local audiences know Summer best for his mid-'60s stint at WBZ, where in addition to working the overnight shift, he hosted a Sunday folk music show at the Unicorn Coffee House. The show morphed into "Dick Summer's Subway," and Summer became one of the city's first DJs to play Orpheus, Ultimate Spinach and the Beacon Street Union.
A true renaissance man, Summer has also worked has published five books of poetry (the Lovin' Touch series). Though no longer in commercial radio (as Summer himself once put it, "Radio changed. I didn't. And won't."),Dick blogs, posts podcasts regularly and sells his spoken word recordings ("personal audios") at www.dicksummer.com. â?¨
One of Dicks 1st notes to me regarding ROM was this. Neal, I think your Roslindale Open Mike is terrific! The early balladeers did something like what you are doing but the fact that you make it a freebie for all, makes it even better. Good stuff Neal, Keep it up, Dick.
