Neal, that's just remarkable! I am so pleased that people remember after all these years. And when you see the Orpheus bunch, please tell them that I not only remember them, I have their most recent CD in my car's cd player. Those guys knew what they were doing.   Yes, I've been doing the Binder commercials for a long time. They're good guys. They do Social Security Disability advocacy.   The Girl Watcher cards were such a lot of fun, that I also did them at WNBC. My wife confiscated my personal copy.   Happy 4th of July, Neal.   It's good to hear from you. Dick.

Neal and Mike 4-25-11 Thank you folks so much for all your contributions to the music community through the ROM.  I really enjoyed featuring, and think you folks have done a wonderful job living up to "Ana's" example of hosting a warm and welcoming open mike.  I know I speak for all the performers when I say "thank you so much" for providing a space to perform and hear others - you folks are doing great work, and I am grateful that I got a chance to be a part of it. Hope I can come back soon, and wish you a wonderful spring! Christina

Neal Braverman for Dick Summer part 2 said:   December 8, 2010 7:45 am PST
I had discussed with Dick the possibilities of getting some of the older "Boston Sound" and other folks to join us at ROM. One his answers was as follows. He was on his way of to meet with and see Tom Rush, I had asked him to mention ROM to him and his reply was, I'll be glad to forward that suggestion and/or if you wish to jot a note, forward it to TOM as well. He continued to say Tom Rush, what a great idea, Some of the many entertainers and my own best memories are from my early days of not only MC-ing but simply being a part of the coffeehouse atmosphere! Upon his return from seeing Tom, Dick went on to say, With regard to Tom Rush, he is sounding better than ever Dick! I had shared with Dick I had added a new Uke to my collection of instruments I seldom get to use. He replied, I got a kick out of your addition of the Uke to your own musical rep. I know 3 chords on a uke. Or I did. It was a long time ago, in fact a very LONG time ago! He then asked me to give his regards to Susan Levine and to all the rest of us "Two-Song-ers" as he put it. With regards to ROM Dick says Neal I love the guts and determination you have toward local music! Your doing good stuff and keep it up! Happy Chanukah, Merry Christimas and all good stuff to you and all within your life and at Roslindale Open Mike. Go Guy, Dick.

Hi Folks, I am honored to post a few words from a wonderful friend I and many of you have known for many years, Dick Summer. It may take fa couple notes to complete. For those that may NOT remember Dick, I am including a bio included on the www.mmone.org site. This site as well is one I encourage all of you to take a look at and become a part of! The Music Museum of New England, Local audiences know Summer best for his mid-'60s stint at WBZ, where in addition to working the overnight shift, he hosted a Sunday folk music show at the Unicorn Coffee House. The show morphed into "Dick Summer's Subway," and Summer became one of the city's first DJs to play Orpheus, Ultimate Spinach and the Beacon Street Union. A true renaissance man, Summer has also worked has published five books of poetry (the Lovin' Touch series). Though no longer in commercial radio (as Summer himself once put it, "Radio changed. I didn't. And won't."),Dick blogs, posts podcasts regularly and sells his spoken word recordings ("personal audios") at www.dicksummer.com. â?¨ One of Dicks 1st notes to me regarding ROM was this. Neal, I think your Roslindale Open Mike is terrific! The early balladeers did something like what you are doing but the fact that you make it a freebie for all, makes it even better. Good stuff Neal, Keep it up, Dick.

Thank you Mike and Neal for the unique experience that you create at ROM - a venue for the expression of rich, eclectic music and other performance art but more importantly a space where local developing and professional artists have the opportunity to nurture friendships and support original, collaborative and creative art. All the best and continued success.
